Today is 4th July. - Ma van július 4.

Az amerikai függetlenség napja, ami angolul:

Independence Day

Figyeljünk rá, hogy a PEN szótag a hangsúlyos! /kb. indePENdensz déj/

Érdekesség:

• Officially, the Congress declared its freedom from Great Britain on 2 July, 1776. - Hivatalosan, a Kongresszus 1776. július 2-án nyilvánította ki függetlenségét Nagy-Britanniától.

• The Declaration of Independence was adopted on July 4, 1776, which is why this date is celebrated. - A Függetlenségi Nyilatkozatot 1776. július 4-én fogadták el, ezért ünnepelt ez a dátum.

• The document was signed over several months because not all signers were present on 4 July 1776. - A dokumentumot több hónapon keresztül írták alá, mert nem volt minden aláíró jelen 1776. július 4-én.

Fun fact:

John Hancock was the first person to sign the Declaration of Independence. - John Hancock volt az első, aki aláírta a függetlenségi nyilatkozatot.

Innen ered a "John Hancock" kifejezés, mint "aláírás".

Pl.

Put your John Hancock here. - Írd alá itt. (Tedd ide a John Hancock-od.)

Sad fact:

Thomas Jefferson and John Adams, the only two signers of the Declaration of Independence who later became US presidents, both died on 4 July 1826, which was the 50th anniversary of the Declaration. - Thomas Jefferson és John Adams, a függetlenségi nyilatkozat két aláírója, akik később az Egyesült Államok elnökei lettek, mindketten 1826. július 4-én, a nyilatkozat 50. évfordulóján hunytak el.
